ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani on Thursday held a phone call with Geza Andreas von Geyr, State Secretary of the German Federal Foreign Office, regarding the recent attacks on Kurdistan, during which the German official reaffirmed his country's support for the Region.
According to a statement from President Nechirvan Barzani's office, von Geyr "condemned the ongoing attacks on the Kurdistan Region, particularly the attack on President Nechirvan Barzani’s residence in Duhok," stressing Germany’s commitment "to the stability of both Iraq and the Kurdistan Region."
He reiterated his country’s "full support and solidarity with the Kurdistan Region,” read the statement from the Kurdistan Region Presidency.
The phone call comes after the residence of President Nechirvan Barzani in Duhok province was targeted by a drone attack on Saturday, without resulting in any casualties. No party has so far claimed responsibility for the attack.
During the call, President Barzani expressed gratitude for Germany’s stance, highlighting the strong bilateral relationship, emphasizing that the Region "is committed to upholding peace and stability in both Iraq and the region.
