ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - United Arab Emirates (UAE) President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on Saturday condemned a drone attack on the residence of Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani in Duhok, reiterating the Gulf state’s “unwavering support” for the Region and Iraq, according to Kurdistan Region Presidency.
The UAE leader “offered a strong condemnation” of the attack and reaffirmed the UAE’s “unwavering support for Iraq and the Kurdistan Region in preserving their security and stability,” according to a statement from the Kurdistan Region Presidency.
The residence of President Nechirvan Barzani in Duhok province was targeted by a drone attack on Saturday, without resulting in any casualties. No party has claimed the attack at the time of writing.
President Barzani expressed gratitude for the call and for the UAE’s “ongoing backing of both the Kurdistan Region and Iraq.”
“The two leaders also turned their attention to the broader regional situation, discussing recent developments stemming from the ongoing war and aligning on the urgent need to advance efforts toward ending the conflict and achieving lasting peace and stability,” the statement added.
Iraqi and Kurdish political blocs and leaders widely condemned the attack. Iran and its Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) denied involvement and also condemned the attack.
