Israeli military says it launched 'broad-scale' strikes on Tehran infrastructure

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - The Israeli military said early Friday it had launched a new wave of attacks against Iranian government infrastructure in Tehran, as powerful explosions were reported across the Iranian capital.

In a statement, the Israeli army said it "has begun a broad-scale wave of strikes against Iranian terror regime infrastructure in Tehran."

The announcement came as Iranian state media confirmed that several loud explosions were heard in both eastern and western parts of Tehran around dawn, coinciding with the morning call to prayer.

Footage circulating on social media appeared to show thick white smoke rising into the sky from locations in the city following the blasts.

So far, Iranian authorities have not released details about the extent of the damage or possible casualties from the latest wave of strikes.

Reports also circulated online claiming that the Imam Ali Officers' Academy in Tehran - formally known as the Military University of the Army of the Islamic Republic of Iran - had been targeted in a joint Israeli and US strike.

Images shared on social media appeared to show damage to a building within the academy complex. Iranian officials have not yet confirmed the reports.

The Imam Ali Officers' Academy is one of Iran’s most prominent military training institutions. It was founded in 1922 by Reza Shah Pahlavi and has played a central role in training senior Iranian army officers.

Iran’s late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei frequently attended ceremonies at the academy, participating in graduation events for its officers dozens of times and delivering major national speeches to students and graduates.

Israel’s military leadership has indicated that the campaign against Iran is intensifying. Israeli military chief Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir said the joint campaign with the United States was moving to “the next phase” and would continue to weaken Iran’s military capabilities.

The war has already produced significant regional repercussions. Missile and drone attacks have been reported across the Middle East, including attempts to target US military facilities in the Gulf and the Kurdistan Region. Meanwhile, Israel has carried out strikes in Lebanon after the Iranian-backed Hezbollah group launched missiles in response to the conflict.
