ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - Iran’s top diplomat on Monday urged the United Nations to stand against an under-fire plan by US President Donald Trump to remove Palestinians from the Gaza Strip during a call with Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
“The proposal for the forced displacement of Palestinians violates all principles and norms of international law and the UN Charter and serves as a completion of the Israeli regime’s ethnic cleansing plan against the Palestinian people,” Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi told Guterres in a phone call, as reported by the state IRNA news agency.
Guterres stressed the need to safeguard the rights of Palestinians and emphasized that the displacement of Gaza’s people is unacceptable, according to IRNA.
During their meeting, Araghchi called on the UN and its Security Council to take decisive measures against what he described as a “dangerous plot” that threatens regional and global stability.
Trump presented his idea of turning Gaza into the “Riviera of the Middle East” during a White House meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, suggesting two million Palestinians to be relocated to other countries, including Egypt and Jordan.
