ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - China’s foreign ministry on Wednesday voiced support for Pakistan’s mediation efforts aimed at easing tensions and reviving negotiations in the ongoing Iran war.
“China supports and looks forward to Pakistan playing a unique and important role in easing tensions, cooling down the situation, and restoring negotiations,” the ministry said in a statement to Rudaw, adding that “Pakistan's mediation efforts align with the common interests of all parties.”
Diplomatic initiatives involving Pakistan, Turkey, and Egypt have recently been launched to try to end the war between Iran, the US, and Israel. Pakistan has offered its capital, Islamabad, as a potential venue for talks between Washington and Tehran, and has already helped relay a reported 15-point ceasefire proposal from the United States, though Iran responded with suspicion.
“China is willing to work together with Pakistan to overcome difficulties, eliminate interference, quickly quell the conflict, create opportunities for peace, and open up channels for negotiation,” the Chinese foreign ministry added.
